We have really been working on the -at family in the classroom. So in one of my CIM groups that I teach we created this interactive writing chart. First, I have them read the rime to tell me what it is. Next we un-Velcro the orange a and t to reveal our picture/word family chart. We read all the words and then cover it up again. On the yellow pieces of paper I write an onset of the word family we’ve been working on. During the phonemic awareness part of our lesson we broke apart and created words in the -at family, adding 1 or 2 new words a lesson during phase 1.
